Avoid Ruining Your Day With Frozen Pipes

frozen pipe

If you have ever experienced frozen pipes in your home, you understand the destruction a burst pipe can cause you, your family...and your home. With the extreme cold weather forecasted for the next couple of days in our region, here are some simple tips to protect your home from freezing pipes - and avoid ruining your day!

- Drip hot and cold faucets in kitchen and bath. Drip single control faucets with lever set in middle.
- Open cabinet doors under sinks.
- Insulate exposed pipes (both hot and cold) under house with foam pipe insulation.
- Set icemaker to make ice if the water line to it runs under the house.
- Be sure to check on pipes to your washing machine in the laundry room.
- Locate water main cut-off valve in your home.

If your pipes do freeze, keep the faucet open when thawing frozen pipes to allow water to begin flowing through it. After the weather has warmed above freezing and any frozen pipes have thawed, turn off dripping faucets and monitor your water meter to check for unseen leaks.

Your Condo Association Has Insurance...And So Should You!

condo owners

Condominium association insurance covers the condominium building, commonly owned property, and liability insurance for the association. However, the association insurance does not protect you from losses to your personal property and the interior of your unit. A Brethren Mutual Condo Policy provides you with protection for the contents of the unit and your personal belongings against a covered loss - such as a fire.
